Research Training Sessions 2008, Session 3
Tutors: Wolfgang Jonas and Rosan Chow

12June – 14 June 2008
Architecture Department Sint-Lucas Brussels. Paleizenstraat 65-67. 1030 Brussels.

----------

Why / How Design Research?

Why? What is the relevance of design research? For whom except for design researchers?
How? What are the paradigmatic models of design research? Which one is my own approach?

Why?
- a conversation collecting factors / variables relevant for the question
- systemic modelling of the phenomenon (Vester 2007)
- discussion / analysis of the systemic model of the phenomenon
- conversation and conclusion regarding why

How?
- research FOR / ABOUT / THROUGH design, practice-based research
- models of research, my own model of research
- t.bag as an example, critical discussion of t.bag
- conversation and conclusion regarding how

Both questions will be dealt with alternately. We will prepare little exercises.

----------

Before the workshop, students are asked to register at http://www.designresearchnetwork.org/drn/ and to upload short statements regarding their research topics under "Conferences → Sint-Lucas_RTS".

They are also asked to read our t.bag paper and are recommended to take a look at Vester’s book, see below for references.
