The College of Architecture, Georgia Institute of Technology, invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair, School of Industrial Design. The School offers the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design and the Master in Industrial Design degrees. At present 127 students are enrolled in the BSID degree program and 37 in the MID degree program.
The ideal candidate for the position would have a clear and compelling sense of the current and future possibilities within Industrial Design and its allied fields, and would be ready to engage the new strategic emphases of the College and the Institute, especially in the areas of cross-disciplinary design education and research. The ideal candidate would also have a proven ability and interest in seeking out and working with diverse constituencies in order to shape innovative and distinctive industrial design academic and research initiatives.
The Chair would have the opportunity to strengthen and expand collaboration with the five academic programs and seven research centers within the College. The Chair would also be expected to build academic and research relationships with units across the Institute, particularly with programs within the College of Engineering, the College of Computing, the College of Sciences, the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, and the College of Management.
Candidates must have a terminal degree in Industrial Design or a related field, with a doctorate and/or extensive experience in academia or industry. Candidates should have an active and distinguished record of administrative experience, teaching, research, scholarship, and creative activity. The salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Ideally, appointment is anticipated by July 1, 2010.
