In the UK there is a national database for Ph.D. theses called EThOS. It is run by the British Libary and hosted here:

After registering its possible to download many, but not all, dissertations as pdf.
I wonder if anything like this is available for Phds in German language.
Who could host this? Any ideas?

das deutsche Pendant ist das von der DFG geförderte Projekt http://www.dissonline.de -- dort sind sämtliche auf deutschen Hochschulschriftenservern (HSS) gelisteten Dissertationen als Volltext aufrufbar; Voraussetzung ist immer dass die Diss auch auf einem HSS gelandet ist, was gerade im Design untypisch ist. (In der Regel wird in Wissenschaftsverlagen veröffentlicht und diese geben selten PDFs fürs's www frei.) Es sind aber einige zu finden.
